On May 8 Eve Harlow won the LEO for Best Supporting Performance by a Female - CONGRATULATIONS Eve!
Old news that I seem to have forgotten top post:
ION Television bought the rights to two 60m original drama series, The Border and The Guard, with
both making their US debuts on ION in 2009. Each agreement allows ION the US television digital

ION Television's second deal with Lionsgate involves the broadcast rights for The Guard, an
action/drama about members of a Coastguard Search and Rescue team.

2009 January 23 - The Guard on extended holiday break
From Mark Bishop, owner of the Facebook group for The Guard:
"So for those of you who were wondering why the show isn't on tonight, we found out today that
the relaunch of the second half of "The Guard" Season Two will be postponed until an
undetermined date in March.
The reason for this is that the American networks are adjusting their programming schedules
and since CanWest Global is bound to their American broadcast partners due to simulcasts,
etc, they could not guarantee an uninterrupted eight week run of "The Guard" at this time.
If they had gone ahead with tonight's broadcast, "The Guard" would have begun bouncing around
the schedule in three weeks time, further frustrating fans and likely having a negative
impact on our ratings. Because of this, the decision was made at an executive programming
level at CanWest to postpone us until the schedule settles down in two months.
Anyway, sorry for the bad news but hang in there -- many of the best episodes of the series
are still to come and I promise it will be worth the wait!"
HOWEVER ....
New episodes are airing on Mystery, Friday nights at 10 pm and sometime Sunday - please
check your local listings for exact times.

2008 October 29 - NEW episodes start airing
Tune in to Global on October 29th at 10 pm to see the episode "The Hold.
Networks in Latin America, South Africa, Finland and Belgium have acquired Canadian drama
series The Guard, ahead of season two's debut in Canada later this month.
A&E in Latin America, MNet in South Africa, YLE in Finland and RTBF in Belgium are the most
recent to sign on the dotted line with the show's distributor Lionsgate Entertainment.
The deals take the show's total roll-out to 30 territories worldwide, following previous
sales into France, Poland, Hungary and the Middle East.
"We've been extremely pleased with the reception The Guard has received
internationally, said Craig Cegielski, executive VP of programming and sales,
Lionsgate International Television.
The Guard stars Steve Bacic (Andromeda), Zoie Palmer (The Regans), Jeremy Guilbaut (Edgemont)
and David James Elliott (JAG, Close to Home).
Produced by DHX-owned Halifax Film and Brightlight Pictures for Global TV in Canada,
The Guard debuted in spring 2008. The second season will launch on Global on October 29.
Steve Bacic and Sonya Salomaa were featured in several segments of ET Canada on October 8th -
so they were not hosts, and it was not on the 7th - sorry.
Starting on October 29th, the role of Laura Nelson will be played by Sonya Salomaa.
There's going to be a new commanding officer in Port Hallett:
Jim McGregor, played by Roger Cross.
We haven't seen Elfina Luk yet, but she is in several upcoming episodes.
2008 September 28 - Tidbits from VIFF
From Vancouver Sun,
Saturday September 27, by Malcolm Parry:
GENTLEMEN PREFER: Do blonds really have more fun? Yes, said naturally blond, Sudbury, Ont. native
Sonya Salomaa, who accompanied Croatia-born fellow thesp Steve Bacic to the Brightlight Pictures
party. In fact, "I was having too much fun," the forester-turned-actress said, tossing her now
dramatically darker mane, "I was bored."
Was going brunette a good move or otherwise? "Good," Salomaa said. "They take me more seriously,"
they being the producers who cast her in such TV series as The Guard (with Bacic). A Gemini
nomination for her role in the series Durham County likely helps, too.
Salomaa and Bacic are to host Entertainment Tonight Canada Oct. 7.
Just a reminder:
Season 2 premieres on Global on October 29th at 10 pm
From the Vancouver Sun, September 24:
"Brightlight Pictures and Bridge Studios will be the first out of the gate with an opening party
Thursday at CinCin on Robson Street.
Company principals and producers Stephen Hegyes and Shawn Williamson will be the hosts for the evening.
Invited international stars, currently filming in Vancouver, include John Cusack, Amanda Peet,
Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover and Ashley Judd. Lead casts from local productions, including
the L Word and Stargate Atlantis, are also among the evening's selected guests.
Confirmed guests to date include the entire cast of the The Guard -- Steve Bacic, Sonya Salomaa,
Jeremy Guilbaut, Teryl Rothery, Gordon Woolvett -- and Eve Harlow [also of The Guard] and
Aaron Ashmore of Smallville."
Entire? Zoie Palmer - where are you?

2008 May 23 - Episode Three Gallery
Finally!
A Gallery for Episode 3 -
I thought the LEOs were a good occasion to get busy.
The forum had a little make-over - or rather, a new option.
Foxy from the Harperfont.com has created a new theme.
It's not default - you have to select it via your profile.
2008 May 22 - LEO Awards
Steve Bacic, Ryan Robbins and Julie Patzwald are going to present LEO awards.
So are The Guard guest stars Teryl Rothery and Colin Cunningham - the latter is a triple nominee like Ryan Robbins.
The LEO AWARDS will also be featured as a television special of
Shaw TV’s The Express. It airs weeknights
at 6 pm.
"Join host Johanna Ward for Vancouver’s only completely on location program. The Express is a lifestyle
magazine program that brings you an in-depth look at the fascinating people, events, recreation and
attractions from Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley."
2008 April 30 - Renewal, nominations and filming again
The Guard has been renewed for a second season of nine episodes, making the total number
22 episodes.
It's a little confusing though.
Originally, the first season was planned to be 13 episodes and the second season 9, but due to
breaking for the winter, season One was only 7 episodes and season Two will now be 16 episodes.
For a total of 22 episodes.
Season Two should start airing in September - as far as I know.
Hopefully Global will rerun the first 7 episodes before season Two starts.
THE GUARD actors have been nominated for 4 LEO AWARDS!
In a Dramatic Series:
Best Lead Performance by a Male: Steve Bacic - The Guard - Coming Through Fog.
Best Lead Performance by a Female: Claudette Mink - The Guard - Coming Through Fog
Best Supporting Performance by a Male: Ryan Robbins - The Guard - Live Free

Subject: GLOBAL'S THE GUARD MAKES A BIG SPLASH WITH AUDIENCES NATIONWIDE
A Global Primetime Update‘
THE GUARD' GLOBAL’S NEW CANADIAN ORIGINAL SERIES MAKES A BIG SPLASH WITH AUDIENCES NATIONWIDE
PREMIERES WITH OVER 800,000 VIEWERS
(TORONTO –January 23, 2008) – The Guard roars ashore…
Global Television’s new Canadian
Original drama series, The Guard made its national debut last night with 813,000
viewers 2+, and 464,000 viewers in the key demo Adults 18-49, outshining the
robust competition of homegrown premieres in past weeks.“This is an exciting
time for Canadian drama, and our support of Original programming remains
steadfast,” said Christine Shipton, SVP, Drama and Factual Content, Canwest
Broadcasting. “The Guard is a reflection of the excellence found within our
production community, and we’re so proud to be a part of it.”
The Guard edged out all other recent Canadian premieres including:
The Border - 710,000 (+14%)
Jpod - 472,000 (+72%)
Sophie - 630,000 (+29%)
MVP - 349,000 (+133%)
(All data BBM Nielsen Media Research based on total viewers Adults 18-49 unless otherwise indicated.)
Writer Denis McGrath posted about it on his blog
- three entries, so be sure to read them all.
Bannister C. Bergen posted on Facebook:
The ratings last night were absolutely fantastic. Global was hoping for a
2 rating, well we surpassed this in spades. The Guard got 4.5 in
Vancouver an as much as a 3.8 in Toronto. This is amazing.
The series premiere of The Guard made waves on Global last night! Both
Toronto and Vancouver exceeded projections for all 3 demos. The A1849 and
F2554 demos in Toronto exceeded projections by 90% where the F2554 demo
in Vancouver more than doubled in ratings versus projections. An
impressive launch for this Canadian hit on Global TV!
I'll say that's cause for celebration!
2008 January 22

I've added four new images in the Gallery - all in the top row.
The executive producer of the show, Charles Bishop looked at this site, and declared it
"pretty cool". Wasn't that nice?
Tiny update - I've added a MUCH nicer headshot of Julie Patzwald
and added a forum about her. I wasn't quite sure how high she was on the cast list until I
saw the press kit. Pretty high ;-)
